New layout ahead of new year

[edit]

Using Template:Monthly archive table Template:Monthly calendar I made a new layout, primarily to improve mobile user experience. The old one greets users with the TOC (oldest year 2009 on top), which is a big chunk of text.

1 more thing i have in mind is missing though. currently users can tap the TOC and jump to a certain day, but then they have to scroll all the way back to reach the TOC. i will add a button so that users can jump back from day snippet to the top.

If no major objection or design flaw, let's keep this, shall we? :) RoyZuo (talk) 17:58, 26 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Display filename?

[edit]

there's a concern about the lack of intuitive ways to go to file page Template_talk:Motd#c-Jean-Frédéric-2011-06-11T15:54:00.000Z-Link_to_media_description_page. makes me wonder if we should display the filename? like in a small line beneath the caption? "Presented to you: File:Example.webm" something like that? RoyZuo (talk) 13:56, 27 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The filenames can be long and may clutter the page while being redundant to the MOTD description. A more intuitive way to open the file may be good but there already is a button in the bottom right corner which also displays the filename at hover. Flagging Media that needs captions

[edit]

I've just recently started engaging with the media of the day, but I've noticed that a fairly large number of items end up featured the day of without closed captioning, is there an easy way to flag that a specific file set to be featured needs captioning? I can manually check & add things, but a lot of videos have no audio at all, while others already have captioning tracks. A way to flag that this is needed when someone adds a suggested piece of media would be really helpful! Bpmcneilly (talk) 18:13, 5 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

And I think people should not add videos to MOTD if it doesn't have subtitles if it's not in English (that most visitors likely sufficiently understand) and has audio in a particular language (i.e. is in a subcat of Category:Videos by language). Especially now, that adding transcripts and translated subtitles have become relatively easy to add quite quickly. Prototyperspective (talk) 18:50, 5 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
